This page is designed to give my students and parents an idea of what to expect this year.

I believe in rewarding good behavior. I reward good behavior in many different ways. Here are just a few!

bullet

Table Reward Parties- The students sit in cooperative groups and by working together they earn table points. At the end of the week (Friday), the table that has earned the most points over the course of the week, gets to come back to the room for lunch.

bullet

Brag Notes- I love to send home positive notes bragging about the excellent behavior that I've seen throughout the week. If your child comes home with a brag note-- be proud!!
Verbal Praise- I use verbal praise more than anything! It's always nice to let the students know that they're doing an excellent job!

bullet

Chance Raffles- Each day students can earn chance tickets. These tickets go into a bucket labeled "Chance Tickets." During the week, each time the class is working well together, they earn a notch on the board under "Chance Raffle." Depending on how well they work together, at the end of the week (Frog-Tastic Friday) I will pull chance tickets from the bucket. So if the class earned 10 notches, I will pull 10 chance tickets. Each ticket represents a trip to the prize box. Each child can get their ticket picked ONCE (if they've already been picked, the ticket goes back into the bucket for next week).

bullet

Rock Star of the Month- I give the class the opportunity each month to nominate one person that they believe has earned the right to be called the "Rock Star of the Month."This person is voted on by the class and the majority of votes determines the winner. The Rock Star of the Month gets their name on the Rock Star wall, a bunch of gifts, and their name on the website!!  At the end of the year the class votes for the Rock Star of the Year. The winner gets a special cup called the "Goblet of Greatness."

bullet

Frog-Tastic Friday-At the end of the day each Friday, we have our Warm Fuzzy Ceremony, we have our Chance Raffle and we also have Mail Call (students can write each other letters and put them into the Walker Post Office box to be deliverd on Friday) .

.

bullet

Warm Fuzzies- During the week the students can fill out a form to recognize the positive behavior of another student. Each Friday we will have our Fuzzy Ceremony where the warm fuzzies will be distributed to the students along with the note written by their peers.

bullet

Bucket Fillers- During the week we will take time to be bucket fillers and write positive affirmations to each other. On Friday we'll check our buckets to see what was written. We will focus on filling buckets all year long!

bullet

Teacher of the day- Each day there will be a student picked to be the teacher of the day. They will act as the teacher while we're in the hallway and at the end of the day, they will select the student to be the teacher for the next day. Teacher of the day is a HUGE honor and privilege.

I am very passionate about reading.

bullet

When it's SSR (Self-Selected Reading) I expect ALL students to be reading. If anyone is talking, drawing or playing around... they will move their person.

bullet

I believe in celebrating reading achievements. I set AR goals for each student (point goal and book level goal) based on their ability. When someone reaches a goal, I let the whole world know!!

bullet

I am willing to share my classroom library with my students. They can fill out a Book Borrowing Form and borrow (take home) any one of my classroom books.

I am very organized and have very high expectations for my students.

bullet

I keep my desk clean (usually), I file things away where they belong, and I keep updated lesson plans. One thing I pride myself on is being organized. I plan for everything!

bullet

I expect my students to do what I ask. I feel respect goes both ways and I will always give respect to my students and I expect the same in return from them.

bullet

I have four very simple rules. I expect that they be followed at all times.

bullet

I openly share my expectations with my students.

Every student has a job that they're expected to do each day.

bullet

I ask every student to complete their job each day. As a way of thanking them for their work, each student that has done their job is elgible to participate in all Frog-tastic Friday events.

Jobs include:

bullet

Table Washers (Each student is on a rotation and this is required by the cafeteria) (2)

bullet

Pencil Sharpeners (They check the Pencils Container and sharpen all pencils that need to be sharpened) (2)

bullet

Computer Techs (They turn off the computers each day and help others when needed) (4)

bullet

Zoo Keepers (They are responsible for feeding, watching ET at recess, cleaning and bathing ET and Carl and Carla) (3)

bullet

Office Runners (They take things to/from the office when needed) (2)

bullet

Mail Carriers (They pass out all papers and things that need to be put into mailboxes) (3)

bullet

Chair and Floor Patrol (They make sure that at the end of the day, all chairs are put up, they also make sure that everyone's chairs are pushed in when we leave the room and they make sure the floors are clean) (2)

bullet

Teacher Assistant (This person leads the line for the whole week, holds open doors, and helps me pass out assignments) (1)

bullet

Book Patrol (They are responsible for putting away classroom books that aren't put away, they make sure all reading tubs have the correct books in them, and they keep the reading area looking nice) (4)

bullet

Lunch Bucket (These two people carry the lunch bucket to lunch, outside for recess, and back inside after recess) (2)

I am fair.

bullet

Everything I do comes with reason. I have a motto in my classroom, "Fair isn't everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need in order to be successful."

I do not allow playing around while we're in line.

bullet

The hallway needs to remain quiet (there are other classes in session) while we travel through it.

bullet

The building frequently gets visitors. We must always make the best first impression that we can!

bullet

There's a time and a place for silliness. The hallway isn't it.

bullet

I rank the line each time we line up. A zero is the lowest rating and a ten is perfect. Students try to earn a perfect ten each time we line up and walk through the halls.

bullet

The Teacher of the Day helps with monitoring the line and watches for excellent examples to be the Teacher of the Day for the next day.

I keep my parents very well informed.

bullet

I send home a newsletter (The Walker Times) each Monday. The newsletter is emailed home, sent home as a paper copy, put on the website and is also put on my Blackboard page.

bullet

I update my website daily.

bullet

I will update my Bb page daily.

bullet

I send home study guides that are used to create the tests that I give.

bullet

The study guides are always on the web and are given at least a week in advance.

bullet

I reply back to e-mails promptly. If you call... I can't promise that I'll get back to you that same day. E-mail is always the best way to contact me.

I view my class as a family.

bullet

We might go see movies outside of school together.

(2007-2008 Class saw Kung Fu Panda and then 2008-2009 Class saw The Tale of Desperaux together!)

bullet

We might get together for a sporting event (Durham Bulls game or Hurricanes game)

bullet

I frequently get together with parents and students for various events. Going to see a movie together, having dinner together, going shopping. You name it, I'm there!

bullet

If your child is involved in a sport please let me know their schedule of games and maybe I'll be able to come and cheer them on!!
